What Happens During a Kitchen Renovation in Liverpool? Homeowner's Checklist.

December 8, 2025

If you're scheduling a kitchen fitting service in Liverpool, and you'd like to know exactly what happens throughout each step, you're in the right place. This process is relatively exact for most Liverpool households, whether you live in a Victorian terraced house in Aigburth, or a modern flat in the Baltic Triangle.

Removal of old kitchen

The team will come and in and start by disconnecting all electric and water supply, before removing the old units (cabinets, worktops, appliances), stripping all tiling and/or flooring. This will set us up for the prep phase.

As a homeowner, it's good to follow the steps below before the above phase begins:

-clear out all cupboards

- set up a temporary cooking area in a separate area

- remove fragile items from rooms that will be required for access to the kitchen

Prep: first fix plumbing and electrics

During the first fix, the contracted team will apply new electrical wiring for all new sockets, lights, and kitchen appliances. Plumbing will be moved around if necessary, or upgraded for the sink and dishwasher. The gas supply will be inspected before potentially relocating or adjusting it according to the new kitchen layout. The walls will then be repaired and plastered before laying the sub-base for the floor!

Steps fitters should follow, especially in older properties:

- is the wiring old?

- are the floors even?

- is there sufficient power supply for the new kitchen set up?

As a homeowner, it's best to confirm:

- appliance location

- approve layout changes if any

- lighting location

Installation of all units

The kitchen is now getting close to the final result. Our installer will build and level the base units, fix all wall cabinets to existing studs or masonry, fit the taller units for the oven or fridge (if required), create space for the other appliances, and check everything is level and square.

Homeowners often like to go through and make sure they're happy with the heights of the units, spacing between units, door openings.

Fitting of worktops, sink, and all appliances

Now that the cabinets are in place, the fitters will begin to attack some of the most important aspects, like cutting and fixing all worktops (templates often completed upfront), installing the sink and taps, as well as the appliances (oven, hobs, dishwasher, fridge/freezer).

Tiling and Flooring

The dedicated team will tie everything together with nicely finished wall tiles, splashbacks, sealant and trims. The appropriate flooring will also be applied - often vinyl or laminate.

Make sure to check the tile layout and grout colour with your fitter. This is also the right time to test the underfloor heating if there is any.

Final Fix and Decorations

The final fix and finishing touches include all lighting, fitting sockets and switches, testing the appliances, finishing the sink plumbing process, testing and certifying the gas hob, fitting handles on cabinets, and finishing off any painting. Finally, a general clean up and waste removal is arranged for your convenience.

How long does the full renovation take?

In Liverpool, with a regular-sized team, a straight-swap kitchen usually takes a working week. Kitchens that require relocation or rewiring often last 2 working weeks, and projects involving structural adjustments are usually around 3 working weeks.
